Senior Citizen Scooters the source of road rage

The other day while I was trying to navigate the snow covered streets where I live, I was forced to jam on the brakes so not to run over a senior citizen in a "mobility stroller" driving down the street.

I have been completely unaware that "mobility strollers" are licensed for the road. I was under the false impression that the strollers where solely to be used on the sidewalks. Used as an aide to help the senior do their daily chores.

At the moment in question the sidewalk was clear - in fact it was in better shape then the city street, but here was a Normandy veteran driving right down the busy road without a care in the world.

I think they know damn well what they are doing. They are invincible. I mean who in their right mind is going to mow down a person in a mobility stroller? The hue and cry from the general public when they read about it in the paper would be enough to force you out of town. No Police officer will ticket them either for exactly the same reason.

So the seniors flaunt their disdain for the traffic laws, and meander down to the dry cleaners at a sedate 3 MPH while we are forced to grit our teeth and fight the urge to accelerate.

Well I say if they want to drive on the roads they have to operate under the same rules as everyone else. They need to be able to keep up with the traffic, they can't use the car pool lane and must yield to the bus. Let's start with those and see how it works out.

I can't be the only one who has had these thoughts - ok maybe I am, but can anyone explain to me why seniors feel they can drive their scooters on the streets?

Seriously, I agree with you. If they are going to be on the street, we should be able to add them to the already well established points per hit system. You know, joggers worth 50, bikers worth 100 -- Seniors should be at least worth 75!

Why they do it? I think just because they have lost their sense of power and this gives it back to them.

Man, just thinking about it makes me want to run out and earn 75 points!

Angie - I agree with you - but I think they should be worth less then joggers. They are not very mobile so they would be an easy target to hit - how about 30 points. There are a lot of them out there so you should have no problem getting a new high score...

Let me at em! I would be good at running people down. I have experience you know.

You should see the Ministry of Transportation manual on driving these killing machines around. Take the test when you are 65 years old and you are good to go until death!

Also, you forgot that seniors are old and going to die soon so they just don't care.

Gawd, you must have this law in Canada or someplace.
All we have to deal with here is rich military brass that actually dare you to run over them because they have a purple heart on the license tag. But the real bad drivers are the ones with the ***handicapped** license plate. They are worse then valley girls that just got their license, texting their friends while applying blush and studying for make-up exams.
Now the Valley girls alone should be worth at least 250 Angie....the *driving* handicapped should be double...don't you agree Dave?

Kevin - I totally agree that the "driving" handicapped should be double points. They make it a much more level playing field. More skill is needed to bring them down.

Now the Valley girls should be considered the bonus round - there are quite a few of them around so you should be able to rack up some nice bonus points - like fer sure

If you're lucky enough to find Paris Hilton on the road - that will be the mother of all bonus rounds....

I recommend watching "death race 2000" starring a young David carradine and Sylvester Stallone.

The nurses actually wheel the infirm from nursing homes out onto the race course to die. Drivers were awarded bonus points in the Thousands. that will cheer you up!

This is a great news for our very poor senior citizens. They only have a few days left count so they deserve happiness for a last time of stay.
